May 2025 Trailer - Rise of the Tombsworn
|
Hello dear Adventurers, Collectors, and Merchants!
The moment is finally here: we invite you to turn up the volume and enjoy the trailer for our latest 3D printable collection: Tombsworn Skeletons of Denmora!
Itās been a long time since Iāve wanted to sculpt new undead for our line. Over the years, the quality and attention to detail in our work has grown so much that creating a new, terrifying faction of Fallen Ones became a personal craving of mine.
At first, I wasnāt sure what kind of tone or identity to give them. We already had the Oldburg Fallen Ones, inspired by medieval European militias and knights, and the Skutagaard Draugar, undead Northmen rising from the frozen barrows of the north. It was only natural that the next evolution would be a skeletal legion from the deserts of Denmora.
And there you go! Two whole days spent reinterpreting skull grins, vertebraes and rib cages. After two weeks of sculpting bones, even seeing chicken bones at dinner was giving me a headache! š
The most important step? A completely new skeletal anatomy, sculpted from scratch. It had to be anatomically plausible but also printable and sturdy, avoiding thin or fragile parts. Quite a challenge! I had to make bold design decisions ā not always realistic, but absolutely fitting for miniatures. I hope you enjoy the result: a stylized yet grounded skeleton structure that took a lot of study, trial and error to get just right.
As usual, inspiration began with a single shape ā this time, the Disc Cuirass. Iāve always loved that form. Used by many ancient civilizations, I decided to blend it with Assyrian-inspired vertical plates and sappara swords, giving it a dark fantasy twist. It fits well within Denmora, especially since the Golemmar Gnomes from the region already wear armor inspired by Mesopotamian cultures.
I've always been fascinated by the aesthetics of ancient Mesopotamia and Assyria: the distinctive curved blades, the majestic winged beasts, and the intricate lamellar armors: a timeless source of inspiration!
Of course, Mundus isnāt our world, so I didn't aim for 100% accuracy ā but drawing from ancient civilizations and mixing some of their key deisgns remains one of my favorite creative pillars when designing new factions.
By the third skeleton, I was already imagining something even bigger:
What if, in ancient Denmora, a line of giants once ruled over all the desert?
Jotunn from the north, exiled from their icy dominions, migrated south to escape the wrath of their gods. There, among the scorched dunes, they built vast tomb-complexes and enslaved entire populations, seeking immortality through sacrilegious rituals.
The idea of Tombs of the Giants beneath the sands was too powerful to ignore. And so, the epic boss was born: Og, a dreadful undead giant and last Jotunn King of Denmora.
Og, the last Jotunn King who once ruled Denmora, enslaving most of the desertās people. Now a cursed skeletal giant, he wields a massive spiked mace and an ancient stone stele from the era he reigned as the true King of the desert.
For the large unit, I didnāt want to go with another skeletal steed: the skeletal horses from the Oldburg set are truly good, even after many years! Instead, I kept thinking about those terrifying, towering skeletons I remembered from Diablo IIās desert sewers ā four-armed horrors that left a mark on my childhood imagination. Turns out, those skeletons never existed! But memory is a strange thing... so I decided to sculpt them!
In Mundus, they are called Nephilim: abominations born of unholy unions between humans and giants in the old ages, brought to life through foul rituals. Towering, four-armed brutes designed for war. Now long dead... and yet, they guard restless the sepulchres of the desert.
While sculpting the rest of the faction, I knew they needed more than skeletal warriors and half-giants. They needed a powerful spellcaster, responsable of their immortal curse.
Thatās where GuulāRath came in. Not just as a powerful undead necromancer, but as the spiritual leader of this cursed army, and the real reason why Og, the last giant king of his dinasty reigning over Denmora and his army of slaves become immortal undeads.
Designing GuulāRath was a joy: I imagined his soul bound to a floating cursed censer, and his skeletal face forever hidden beneath a monstrous funerary mask a fusion of ancient folklore and dark fantasy.
I don't want to spoil every miniature of the set, so if you wish to see the complete collection just watch the trailer above :)
